Michael’s coaching has provided the structure and accountability I needed very badly to make the progress that I wanted. That along with the untempered instruction on form and technique has been invaluable in making me a better lifter. I also train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and during the time that I’ve received coaching from Michael I’ve also noticed a drastic increase in strength and stamina in my rolling.

Working with Michael has quite literally improved every area of my life since he started coaching me. He provides direct, honest feedback to keep me true to the correct movement pattern while still taking into account my personal schedule and physical attributes. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses when it comes to barbells. Michael has shown to be able to quickly identify those in my training and adjust programming to match what I need in my strength journey. Without hesitation, I would recommend him to anyone looking for a SS coach.

I self trained for years before signing up with Michael. While I did see small increases in strength, I also experienced multiple small nagging injuries. Ater signing up with Michael about 4 months ago, I have seen big increases in my strength. My max on all lifts has increased significantly. I am seeing less small injuries from getting constant feedback on form. Any issues or questions I may have are always treated with respect, even when I feel it may be a dumb question. I would highly recommend training with Michael to anyone. I have experienced coaching with Michael in both a virtual and in person setting and highly enjoyed both.

I have been working virtually with Coach Michael Jones, SSC, since around June of this year, and I cannot recommend him enough! I came to Michael after having followed Starting Strength principles on my own for a couple of years (I even read the books!) but nothing compares to the individualized coaching of an SSC, and Michael goes above and beyond with his attention to detail, commitment to educating his clients in ways that work for them, his professionalism, and unwavering support. I had been struggling for months with chronic lower back pain, and a work injury I was told could end my career – but with Michael I was able to accomplish in *days* what I couldn’t accomplish on my own in years, and I have both avoided career-ending surgery, and learned to work through fear, pain, and adversity. I literally couldn’t have done any of it without him – a nice, but tough coach, who brings years of experience and an individualized approach to each client, an all around great guy!

Michael is 100%” all in “as your coach. He is honest, conscientious, consistent, and thoughtful about each step in your progress as a participant and student of weight training. He has helped transition me from a novice to an intermediate lifter with smooth changes in my program and additional accessory lifts. He is an enjoyable person to work with.

Been with Michael at SS Plano for a few months and can recommend him as a knowledgeable, professional, and committed coach. He definitely knows what he’s doing and I’m glad I invested in training with him. If you’re on the fence, just know that Michael will help you do stuff that doesn’t seem possible right now. It’s worth the money to have a professional like him at your side. You won’t regret it.

    M. Jones has been laboring to get me stronger for a year and a half. With his loud coaching, I have done things that I didn’t want to do and didn’t think I could do. The weights get heavier monotonically. I have accrued no injuries.

Insiders know that M. Jones prefers the handle ‘Joan’ because it is the singular of Jones, and he is only one of the Joneses.

If I get unruly at the Plano Gym, Joan points out my wizened condition and returns me to the straight and narrow. I’m 71, and I am not comfortable with civility as we practice it. But gravity doesn’t care about my comfort, and neither does Joan.

For no extra charge, while you are wheezing your lungs out after a set, you can get an explanation of what King Lear must have been thinking during this or that speech. Hamlet is also dredged up. And Heidegger, and Nietzsche.

If you want to get strong, this place and this coach will get it done through you whether you like it or not.
