I am in the over 75 crowd. I just completed my first month at the gym, and I feel different—better. As a typical female of my age, my experience with weights was limited to 5-10-15 lb hand weights. At SS, I do three sessions a week with a coaches and several other lifters. It is actually a lot of fun. The conversation ranges from German philosophy to hip-hop music with frequent dad jokes and puns. So far, I have not graduated from squats without weights, but I am doing presses, bench presses and dead lifts. Really! The coach and the assistant are helpful, encouraging, and taskmasters at the same time. All the health advice out there now says you need strength to keep healthy and able to enjoy your old age. I’m convinced it’s true, and it’s taking me less than 5 hours a week to achieve. Did I say, this is fun already? I can’t believe it.
