Joining Starting Strength has been one of the best decisions, and a large part of that is driven by the high quality coaches! Brian is an AMAZING coach. He creates a fun, safe, and rewarding environment in the gym. His attention to detail and knowledge has been instrumental in getting me stronger than I ever dreamed. As someone who had no barbell experience before starting this program, it was fantastic to find this gym and feel instantly welcomed and encouraged by the community that Brian and the other coaches foster.
Brian is a dynamic and motivating coach, and it’s obvious he’s passionate about your individual success. He is excellent at identifying problems/troubleshooting the lifts, and knows just the right thing to say to improve your technique and get you through the next set – do you need words of encouragement? Gentle mocking? Screams of “go go go!” as you crush a PR? Brian is your coach! I highly recommend.
Having been at starting strength for two years with Brian as my coach for one of those, I can confidently say that Brian, with his expertise and acumen, will make you a better, stronger person. He has a genuine and natural ability to want you to meet your goals. He makes the class fun and approachable to all ages, genders, and experience levels and does so with a smile.
I went for years just noodling around in the gym and got fair results. After a years-long hiatus from training of any kind, I decided I needed a change. I signed up thinking I’d go for a month and switch to a cheap gym afterwards. Boy did I change my mind. There’s nothing like having a dedicated and competent coach there to support and guide you in the fight that is barbell training.
As an army veteran I find I click well with Brian. I recommend any veteran to check him out first. It’s just nice sharing a common culture like that. It’s not necessary to be a veteran to appreciate his other virtues though. He’s a big, jolly, friendly guy. He takes our discipline very seriously, does his job well, and keeps you accountable. And he’s just a big strong guy; he walks the walk.
I have nothing negative to say. Brian is the man. He will help you get strong.
