I started out like most gym-goers do. I was a wildly mediocre high school football player trying to impress girls. Through college and my 20s, I exercised because I wanted to look like a cartoon superhero. I ran every “Bigger Guns in 6 Weeks” program that was fresh in whatever healthy man magazine I was reading that month. It wasn’t until my 30s that I stumbled upon “Starting Strength” and initially thought it was just a 3 sets of 5 reps program. I fell in love with the process and mechanics of the lifts and their models. I find the reasons why the lifts are done a certain way is just as intriguing and exciting as doing the lifts themselves. One thing I love about training, it’s that progress is objective. It’s quantifiable. I have had the pleasure of working with and coaching skinny college kids, 50-year-old secretaries, competitive powerlifters, and regular everyday-people from every walk of life.
During the day I sell and engineers steam and heat transfer equipment. I continue to train so I can be my two kids’ real-life superhero.
As the only current Starting Strength Coach in Wisconsin, I welcome one on one appointments in Appleton at a private gym. I am somewhat flexible and can make times work. I prefer weekends because the gym is less busy, but there is enough space that we can make week days work as well.
I am available for weekly programming and session to session coaching for all programmed lifts. I specialize in female and male novice, intermediate, and advanced lifters. Elite level lifters are open to contact, but admittedly outside of my specialty. I am good at programming around a "parent's schedule" and willing to program only.
Coaching Plans:
Basic Form Checks
$39.00 covers four form checks with coaching feedback based on the Starting Strength Model.
Full Strength:
$179.00/mo includes session to session feedback and weekly programming.
There are other coaching options available after a good honest run on the Full Strength Program.
I do not do in-depth nutrition coaching or physical therapy. I am also available for in-person coaching in Wisconsin.

6 Reviews on “Joe Jaloszynski, SSC”
He’s been helping me out. Really appreciate that.
If you’re in the market for a barbell online coach don’t look any further.
I hired Joe a few months ago and this is by far the best decision I made in my lifting career.
Joe not only is a fantastic barbell coach he also has the specific skillset required for online coaching. After every workout I get a detailed feedback with just the right cues that help me to improve in the next session. He smoothly transitioned me from NLP to intermediate programming where he takes everything into consideration regarding my individual situation.
His observations are always on point, cues are catchy and he has a great subtle sense of humor that makes every review fun to read.
Besides training he is helping me with nutrition and even mindset.
Will definitely keep on keepin’on!
I had a great experience working with Joe as an online Starting Strength coach from for 3 months. Like I told him and will tell you here, I have already recommended him to friends and family. I started with him before the recent pandemic crisis. When people found themselves suddenly jobless and broke, Joe stepped up and generously offered a free month to lifters who found themselves suddenly unable to pay.
At the time I first reached out to Joe, I had managed to piece together a minimally safe home setup I had read the Blue Book pretty closely, had tried “self teaching” to the point where I realized I needed a coach to learn the lifts properly. As carefully as I’d read and watch videos, everything wasn’t quite right.
Joe was able to step in and, at several points in multiple lifts, identify precisely what section of the text I had been overly focusing on, to the detriment of my overall form. I find that it’s incredibly useful to not just have the correction described, but the pathway at which your own form veered away from proper form explained, *accurately*. This permits quick, thorough cognitive remapping, which seems to combine with neuromuscular training to make for highly efficient learning.
Lifting from home absolutely maximizes convenience. In my case translated directly to consistent lifting –something less likely if I were scrambling to inconvenient gym the few times a month I’d be able to make it in before they closed. Joe is in the meantime maxing out the advantages of working with digital images, which is basically the instant replay (without the pressure of the ticking game clock.) by compareing/contrasting still frames in form, using graphics to highlight proper angles and depths. While feedback might not be immediate, it IS something you can return to and revisit in a way improssible with an unrecorded live gym session. With video coaching, the form of the session is inherently its own training log.
In the three months I spent with Joe coaching me, my health has improved in multiple, measurable ways, and what’s more I’ve gotten to the point where I know I can continue moving forward from here. 5 stars.
I’m actually based in the UK and I’ve been getting coaching from Joe for about 6 months now.
At first it was form checks for a couple months and he has helped clean up my form in all of the four lifts. Bench and Deadlift in particular have been transformed and I’m making good progress in these lifts.
Good setup comes naturally to me now.
His verbal cues work for me, they make sense.
Great with encouragement.
He’s funny too.
I can’t afford form checks now, so he just does Programming for me at the moment.
It’s working very well so far and I’m adding weight to the bar weekly as an intermediate.
I would highly recommend Joe as a coach.
I starting lifting using the SS model and technique after farting around with other less effective training methods. When I needed guidance, I found the SS Facebook group and Joe was one of the SSCs who was always giving feedback to lifters posting.
I got in touch with Joe through there and he provided Form Checks for me. I have been around a lot of coaches in sports and Joe is without a doubt the best coach I have worked with, especially in Barbell Training. He is direct and his feedback is very specific to what the trainee needs. Joe presents the information very clearly and in a way that helps you understand exactly what you need to do.
If you need help with your training, contact Joe.
Joe is an outstanding coach. He helped me with some form checks a couple of months into my NLP.
Joe is extremely well versed in Starting Strength, yet can meet the client where they are to make progress. Many experts can’t do this, Joe excels at it.
